Short Bio
Over 20 years of professional experience in serving Southeastern Indiana with a primary focus on macro-level work. From Coordinator of local Rape Crisis Services to Systems of Care development both for youth with mental health concerns and those with substance use disorders, Brenda has focused upon system level work to improve the local community. Brenda has been the local Project Director of two SAMHSA initiatives and several other community change initiatives. She is also a certified instructor for Mental Health First Aid, Youth Mental Health First Aid, and QPR Suicide Prevention. She also led the planning of the annual Indiana System of Care conference for several years, growing the attendance from approximately 300 to 650 in 5 years. Brenda also has spent her entire career working on various grants and currently teaches the Program Evaluation and Grantsmanship course within the Social Work program at Mount Saint Joseph University.

"Since 2002, I have served as adjunct faculty at the Indiana University Purdue University Columbus campus teaching courses in juvenile justice and social work. I have a master’s degree in social work (MSW) from Indiana University.

I am a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the Indiana Juvenile Detention Association (IJDA), and the National Juvenile Detention Association (NJDA).

I served as the Director of the Bartholomew County Youth Services Center from 1999 to 2008 and as the Center’s Resident Counselor and Staff Training Coordinator from 1992-1995. I also served as Executive Director of the Foundation for Youth of Bartholomew County, Inc., and of the Bartholomew County Youth Advocacy Commission. I was a Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff from 1984-1988, a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer, in Kenya, East Africa from 1980-1982, and a VISTA volunteer paralegal with the Legal Aid Society of Lincoln, Inc. in Lincoln Nebraska from 1974 to 1975.
